So since I am finally putting together my stupid 928 I have been day dreaming about what to buy with the money. I have gone between a Mad Max apocalypse car, a Jeep, a truck, something cheap and quick to beat, and a motorcycle. This would go along with my GTO. Which do you think I decided on? You have a 1 in 5 shot of being right. I have chosen to get a bike. Its the most practical of all the choices and will be the most rewarding in the end. Now you must know I have also thrown around all these options a ton and I had been thinking about getting a 2005 Bandit 1200S. They are good bikes, I fit on them really well, and the 2005 has a fun paint scheme. That isn’t the bike I am leaning toward. I still need to try riding one, but I want to get a 2000-2004 Triumph Speed Triple 955i in black.
The wheels would 100% need to be changed. Other wise I love the look. I’d want to paint the frame black too at some point, but that would be down the road. Bonus picture of the helmet I would buy to go with it.

Motorcycle. Now and forever.

You do know $550 will buy you a really nice helmet right?

That helmet is gonna hurt the neck at highway speeds. Otherwise the speed triple is a great choice, but I wouldn’t discount the Tuono in your research as well. That era had a pretty reliable and strong Rotax V-twin.
Dumb question, you’ve ridden before right?

Yes quite a bit. Been on a Bandit and a 1970 Honda XL500S for most of it.
The helmet is vented at the ears and if I don’t like it I have a regular helmet.

That is a nice helmet. But I have a regular helmet if I don’t like this one.

Yup, that’s what I was thinking.

I’d buy a beater car, in fact I just did, but if I didn’t have young children I’d buy a bike right now. Nice choice. Have you considered dual sports? Fun to commute on, and there’s fun riding up in Pozo.

I’ve had the dual sport experience with a 1970 Honda XL500S, which is my dad’s and I could easily borrow anytime. Also I would buy a bike right now if someone had bought a beater Porsche instead of a clapped out Bimmer.... #justsayin

Figured as much (the speed triple is a kind of weird choice for the standard “I need 200hp and 1000cc’s so I don’t outgrow my first bike in a few months”, greenhorn), but you have to ask these days before recommending anybody a bike!
Oh had no idea it was vented, that would help a lot with straight on, but I’m curious how much drift happens when you turn your head at speed. Report back!

Yeah but clapped out Porsche dollars>8x beater BMW dollars. It’s math.

I totally support the “its your money do what you want with it”, but that is a cheap helmet with $450 cat ear attachments. I’d have to imagine you could instead buy a $450 helmet and find some cat ear attachments things on ebay or something...

Math is for NERDS

So you like the Speed Triple? I still need to try it before I buy 100%. Oh of course I will report it. Just need to ditch the 928 first

Hmm maybe, I will look into it.

I are not gud at it

I like the speed triple a lot and it’s a damn near perfect all rounder. My only complaints are that I had more fun on the street triple (really tight twisty roads near me) and the Tuono fit me a little better for longer rides.

Bike is a great choice. Can’t go wrong. Speed triples are great, but I would lean towards a street triple simply for comfort on longer rides. Actually I’m contemplating a street triple and a monster for when I’m bored with the big, dumb, heavy Harley. And a Thruxton R 1200... Too many choices, but in my opinion bikes are pretty much universally fun as long as you choose one within your skill level.
Edit: That cat ear helmet is cool too, but I would be a little worried about drag. I have this bell rogue (matte black) and it drags a little more than I would like over 60mph.

Oh man, I do like those helmets. The ears are vented in the rear I am only slightly worried about drag when turning my head.

Yeah, never been too big a fan of how the Tuono looks.

They’re probably not bad. But iguess my point was it doesn’t take much to add just enough drag to be tiring on longer rides. But if it’s an issue just wear another helmet for those times.

Yeah I have a regular helmet I wear now. I’d keep it in case that one doesn’t work out.
